Raiders manager Josh McDaniels refuses to talk about Colin Kaepernick’s training

Las Vegas Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels did not provide information on Colin Kaepernick’s recent training in the desert.

McDaniels declined to comment on Kaepernick’s training with the Raiders to reporters on Thursday, saying he is not talking about players who are not currently on the roster.

“By standard procedure only, we will only talk about the people who are on our team,” said McDaniels. “[General manager] Dave [Ziegler] and his staff worked with a lot of guys this spring, and we really don’t comment on the ratings we did; or what they look like, how they didn’t seem.

“They are kind of a private for us as we look at things to try and make decisions to improve the team.”

On Thursday, NFL network insider Ian Rapoport reported that all indications are that Kaepernick’s training went well and that the quarterback impressed those in attendance.

Training was Kaepernick’s first with an NFL team since he split from the San Francisco 49ers after the 2016 season. Kaepernick had a free agent visit with the Seattle Seahawks in May 2017 and recently launched. in front of NFL scouts during half-time at the University of Michigan spring game on April 2.

Kaepernick hasn’t played in the NFL since the 2016 season, during which he peacefully protested social injustice and police brutality by kneeling during the national anthem before games.

“If there is an opportunity to improve the team, we said from Day 1 that we would consider every opportunity,” McDaniels said when asked about Kaepernick’s training. “He is not the first player we have seen, and not the last. There will be many people entering and exiting this building. … The evaluations we do are private to us, and if we make the decision to add someone to the team. , we will do it”.

Derek Carr is entrenched as the Raiders’ starting quarterback after signing a three-year extension this off-season. Nick Mullens, Jarrett Stidham, and rookie Chase Garbers are the other quarterbacks on the Las Vegas roster.

“There’s nothing more important than that position,” McDaniels said. “So when people say you know you’ve established it, we definitely do. The next guy in line, you don’t really talk about him until he’s the most important guy in your organization when the owner gets hurt. I know he is there. many of us on this staff have experienced some of those injuries, I definitely have experience with that, it’s one of the hardest positions, if not the hardest to play in any sport.

“Trying to constantly shuffle and make sure you do the best you can to provide competition in that room and have guys who can learn, play and produce in your system with the group we have is really important part of any football team and we are encouraging the competition at the moment “.
