Governor Mike DeWine won the primary election for the Republican governor of Ohio on Tuesday.
Ohio Republican voters have decided to send Governor Mike DeWine to represent them in the November general election as the governor dismissed two main contenders, former Representative Jim Renacci (R-OH) and Joe Blystone.
While DeWine has faced fierce backlash from conservatives in Ohio over the closures and mandates it imposed during the early months of the Chinese coronavirus pandemic, all appears to have been forgiven.
Additionally, the victory comes just over a month after DeWine signed a law making Ohio the 23rd constitutional state of the Union.

Meanwhile, in the Democratic governor primary election, former Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley won his race against former Cincinnati Mayor John Cranley.
DeWine, however, is expected to win in the general election because Democrats haven’t won the Ohio governor’s office in nearly 16 years, and as of 2020, analysts no longer view Ohio as a fluctuating state.
However, Republican Governors Association Executive Director Dave Rexrode released a statement following Whaley’s victory, stressing the importance of supporting DeWine in November:
After a messy ride to the left that has seen Nan Whaley advocate extreme progressive politics and move further out of line with traditional Ohio values, it’s clearer than ever that Mike DeWine is the best choice to lead the state forward. Whaley failed Dayton as mayor and would bring those same broken policies to Columbus. Governor DeWine has helped the state overcome difficult circumstances in pursuit of a more prosperous future for all Ohio residents, and we look forward to earning re-election this fall.
Another big race on Tuesday night in Ohio includes a crowded Republican camp vying for the vacant seat of Senator Rob Portman (R-OH) as the senator decided last year not to run for re-election, citing a “blockade. partisan”.
In the Ohio GOP primaries are author JD Vance – who former President Donald Trump endorsed – former Ohio treasurer Josh Mandel, the son of Cleveland “Guardians” owner Matt Dolan, the man businessman Mike Gibbons and former Ohio Republican Party president Jane Timken.
At the time of publication, JD Vance is the winner of the Republican Senate primary in Ohio.
