Kingston’s new touch screen unit offers the security that even James Bond would choose

In the past, a spy like James Bond would have had to smuggle top secret information using a micro dot hidden in a cigarette or something similar. We now live in a digital age, but we still have incredibly valuable and sensitive information that needs to be kept safe from prying eyes.

If James Bond was smuggling secrets today, he would probably turn to Kingston Technology for one of the company’s latest encrypted storage devices. The IronKey Vault Privacy 80 External SSD (VP80ES) is Kingston’s first innovative OS-independent external SSD with touchscreen and hardware encryption to protect top-secret data.

Using the new IronKey VP80ES is as simple as unlocking a smartphone, and it also uses simple drag-and-drop file transfers. With its intuitive color touchscreen and 256-bit XTS-AES encryption, the VP80ES is FIPS 197 certified and can protect sensitive data while being simple to use. With read and write speeds of up to 250MB / s, this small drive is no problem when it comes to moving large amounts of data.

The new unit can withstand so-called Brute Force and BadUSB attacks. This is thanks to its digitally signed firmware for users, whether it is a SME or a freelance content creator working from home. Kingston says the military-grade security used in the VP80ES makes it a much safer choice than relying on the internet or the cloud to protect important business information, documents, and videos.

Along with its ease of use and best-in-class hardware encryption, the VP80ES has other features to keep your data safe. These features include a multi-password option that can be set separately for both the administrator and the end user using a PIN or passphrase with configurable password rules.

The drive administration option offers the choice between using a numeric PIN or a memorable passphrase. There are configurable password rules and extended security options such as a maximum number of shared password attempts, minimum password length of 6-64 characters, alphanumeric password rules, automatic timeout to lock the drive, randomized touchscreen layout and secure wipe for maximum protection of important files.

The administrator level password can be used to restore data and access the data in case the end user forgets the password. For added peace of mind, the VP80ES Brute Force Protection can clear drive encryption if administrator or user passwords are entered incorrectly 15 times in a row.

Of course, having watertight security isn’t very useful if the person using the device keeps forgetting their password. The VP80ES allows the password to include ‘space’ characters so that passwords can be easier to remember, such as a list of words, a memorable quote or even the lyrics of a favorite song. And instead of a password, you can use a PIN pad to unlock VP80ES, just like a normal smartphone. To reduce the number of failed login attempts and frustration, the user can tap the “eye” button to view the password characters as they are entered.

Kingston IronKey VP80ES comes with a neoprene travel case and two USB 3.2 Gen 1 adapter cables for connecting to USB-C or USB-A devices, making it ideal for use on the go when protected data needs to be physically repositioned.

Oscar Escayola Kaloudis is Kingston’s flash business manager for the European and Middle Eastern markets. He adds, “As more people continue to work from home and outside corporate firewalls, we want to provide easy-to-use military-grade security options for small and medium-sized businesses to complement our existing encrypted USB drives. IronKey Vault Privacy 80ES does just that. Between the color touchscreen, myriad of security features and its small form factor, users can truly control their data in their own hands. “
