The Hollywood attorney says Amber Heard’s editorial damaged Johnny Depp’s career

Johnny Depp’s libel trial against Amber Heard has entered its fourth week in Fairfax, Virginia.

Heard was sued by Depp for $ 50 million (£ 38.2 million) for implying he abused her in 2018 Washington Post editorial. Although she didn’t mention him, he claims that his accusations of him made it difficult for him to get film roles.

On Monday, the jury listened to Depp’s security guard describing two quarrels between the couple in their Los Angeles penthouse, including one alleging that Heard punched Depp.

Depp’s agent described his career before and after the editorial was published, calling it “catastrophic”. You said Depp lost his role in the sixth Pirates of the Caribbean film, and in subsequent years he was unable to sign any studio productions.

Further testimony was provided by a nurse employed by Heard who said she was prone to outbursts and described apparent injuries after the couple allegedly had a fight. The nurse’s testimony will resume on Wednesday.

Heard is yet to testify and provide his own account of the relationship, but is expected to take a stand this week.

Johnny Depp’s legal team is expected to close the case today, with Amber Heard’s team ready to begin testimony.

Their first witness should be Dr. Dawn Hughes, a clinical and forensic psychologist who specializes in the assessment and treatment of interpersonal violence, traumatic stress and anxiety disorders.

Heard is expected to take a stand Wednesday, with her testimony likely to span more days as with Depp’s.

During his testimony Richard Marks was asked if he knew of actresses whose careers improved after raising allegations of domestic abuse against men in Hollywood.

While Mr. Marks said he didn’t know any of them, he went on to speculate: “I assume Amber Heard thought his career would improve by taking him out. I don’t know.”

The process is expected to last for a total of six weeks. The respective legal teams of Depp and Heard will present their concluding arguments and a jury will deliberate to reach a verdict.
