Fortnite it has always managed to remain relevant over its five years of existence, largely thanks to its near-constant stream of updates offering players new content to discover and changes to the overall gameplay. The next update has officially arrived and it’s substantial – a new battle at the POI level, opening a long-idle vehicle, and much more.
Epic Games’ popular free-to-play battle royale title is now roughly halfway through its second season of Chapter 3. Fortnite made a sensation earlier in the season by completely eliminating its signature build mechanic, later restoring it and adding a dedicated Zero Build mode. Since then the game has regularly added full-scale battles at various POIs, with this latest update suggesting an approach towards a climax.
While the Fortnite The v20.30 update is pretty robust, the biggest component of the new content being The Battle for Tilted Towers. As with all POI-centric battles between the Imagined Order and the Resistance of the previous Seven, players must defeat three waves of IO Guards at different points in the location. Players will once again be assisted by the AI Seven Sentry units, as the deadly Huntmaster Saber looms large in one of the last remaining IO Blimps on the island.
Another important part of the Fortnite the update is the unveiling of the fan-favorite vehicle, the Choppa. Reportedly not seen in the main game since Chapter 2 Season 4, the air vehicle excels as an optimal means of transportation, with the capacity to hold up to five players. The last time the Choppa appeared in the foreground was during last year’s Impossible Escape LTM, which tasked players with fixing one while facing off against a litany of enemy AI. However, before players begin to take to the skies, the Choppas must be fully funded through funding stations at one of the island’s seven outposts.
In addition to the new battle and the vaultless Choppa, Fortnite is bringing back the lightsabers just in time for Star Wars Day. Extending May 4th beyond the expected Fortnite players will have access to a variety of lightsabers from various Jedi and Sith during the Skywalker Saga. In addition to the stylish weapon for “a more civilized era”, players will also have access to the classic E-11 blaster rifle. The update also adds a set of Star Wars missions, which players can complete to unlock an empire banner.
In what appears to be the biggest weapon rebalancing since pre-Chapter 3, Fortnite is renewing its current rifle catalog. The Striker Pump and Auto Rifles have increased headshot damage, as well as an increased number of headshots from 3 to 4. The Ranger Shotgun gets significantly increased headshot damage, as does the Shotgun Shotgun . However, while the drum also gets shot count of up to 4 shot, the effective range has been reduced. Between the rebalancing of the rifle, the re-addition of lightsabers, and the disassembly of the Choppa, the rest of Chapter 3 season 2 just got a lot more interesting.
Fortnite it’s free on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One and Xbox Series X / S.
