Villarreal scared Liverpool for 45 minutes on Tuesday night, but Jason Cundy claimed that this simply proved him right on the Spanish side.
Villarreal did not shoot a single shot on goal in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final with Liverpool last week, as Unai Emery’s side tried to prevent the big favorites from gaining too great an advantage.
The fact that they had beaten Juventus and Bayern Munich to get to that stage of the tournament apparently wasn’t a big enough clue for the former Chelsea player who deserved a lot to be in the bottom four.
Instead the 52-year-old said their eventual downfall was proof that he was always right, seemingly ignoring the fact that a team the size of Villarreal had just clashed with arguably the best team on the planet.
😳 “They were 2-0 up at half-time! Did they lose 3-2 and a man was sent off? “
👀 “Somehow they managed to reach the semifinal, to their credit …”
🗣 “That second half performance tells me what I said was 100% right.”

“burned in their own way”. The words you are looking for are “score more goals than the other team on more occasions”, then fight valiantly against one of the best teams in the world, only be beaten in the last half hour of the draw.

At the end of the day they deserved to be there, they beat everyone they faced until it got a little too much for them
Respect for Villarreal.

“They took a misstep towards a semifinal”
As a friend, they beat Juventus on two legs, including a win in Turin,
Beat Bayern Munich on two legs
and literally made one of the best teams in the world look like an average for 47 minutes.– Joshua Jack (@ JoshuaJ52094749) May 4, 2022
He tells you that Villarreal, like 99% of the world’s soccer teams, failed to maintain that level of intensity for 90 minutes against this relentless Liverpool side.

What’s wrong with congratulating them on an amazing year they’ve had? He won EL by beating Arsenal, United. 1/2 final in CL beating Juventus and Bayern Munich! It is a huge, historic and incredible achievement for Villarreal and their fans. Applause

Usual nonsense on Candy’s part, Villarreal made it to the semi-finals because they deserved it, knocking out two huge incoming clubs with a fraction of the budget of most other clubs. Actually a nice change to see a different team in the semifinals for a change

Probably the only thing that is a shame about the Champions League is that Cundy is able to share his views with such a large audience, considering how terrible they are, even though there is no doubt that he knows exactly what he is doing.
Villarreal have a smaller budget than Burnley and, with what can only be described as a Premier League trash heap, have won the Europa League and reached the Champions League semi-final.
It was no surprise that Liverpool reacted to win the match, although things were made easier for them thanks to Geronimo Rulli.

However, it’s not that other teams haven’t fallen into similar comebacks in the competition, this year PSG lost to Real Madrid when they won 2-0 in the second half of the round of 16, thanks to Karim Benzema’s hat-trick in 17 minutes. .
Cundy isn’t exactly targeting the French side for being a “shame” despite the fact that they are much closer to Real than Villarreal is to Liverpool in terms of perceived talent and level.
Luckily most of the fans are on the side of the Spanish team, who have given us amazing nights in Europe this season and defied all odds.
